The Wörlitz Elbe Terrace is located in the middle of the idyllic Elbe floodplain, and therefore the direct location on the river becomes a
defining feature of our house. Floodplain forests and meadows, black storks, white-tailed eagles, grass snakes,
stag beetles, bats and beavers - there is a rich variety of flora and fauna to admire. Many animals
you will experience here for the first time in nature. Enjoy silence and boundless, untouched nature.
There are numerous cycling and hiking trails to explore the region, sometimes on dikes along the Elbe,
sometimes through charming villages and towns. Certainly worth mentioning here is the Elbe Cycle Path, which stretches about 980 km,
beginning in Prague on the Vltava River, to the mouth of the Elbe at Cuxhaven and attracts many cycling enthusiasts.
cycling enthusiasts. Also the Luther Trail leads pilgrims directly past our house.
In the immediate vicinity is the Wörlitz Park, one of the earliest landscape gardens in Europe and an attraction for nature and architecture lovers and part of the Dessau - Wörlitz Garden Kingdom. Already since the second half of the 18th century, numerous interconnected landscape gardens based on the English model were created here with buildings and garden sculptures that corresponded to the idea of the Enlightenment at that time.
In addition to picturesque interwoven meadows, lakes and forests, it is the numerous buildings that delight the eye. The Wörlitz Castle, the Gothic House, the Venus Temple or the Villa Hamilton are just a few of the attractions of the Wörlitz Park. The public accessibility of buildings and gardens was part of the educational concept to humanize society. Especially through garden design, education was to be imparted more than 200 years ago. Rare woody plants, literary inspired garden scenes and whole landscapes were made to grow before the astonished contemporaries with the help of garden art. A gondola ride on Lake Wörlitz is especially recommended.
A little way down the Elbe is the Lutherstadt Wittenberg, world-famous as the starting point of the Reformation in 1517. This is where Martin Luther lived and taught, and where he posted his 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church. Students from near and far flocked to the local university, and through numerous personalities such as Philipp Melanchthon or Lucas Cranach, an important cultural and religious center developed.
The world-famous sites of the Reformation, such as the Castle Church, Luther House or City Church, still attract numerous guests from all over the world and give the city an outstanding significance. The impressive, lovingly restored old town is always worth a visit.
Dessau is world famous for the Bauhaus, the cradle of modern architecture.
With the Bauhaus building, the Masters' Houses and the Kornhaus, to name just a few examples, there are numerous buildings that attract tourists. In addition to other modern sights such as the Mulde Bridge or the Federal Environmental Agency, the generously designed landscaped gardens in and around Dessau are further attractions. Mosigkau Castle, the Luisium and the Georgium are worth seeing.
Another highlight is the Dessau-Wörlitz railroad, here you can commute comfortably and conveniently between Dessau and Wörlitz - bicycle transport possible.
